La Specola is a natural history museum in the city of Florence, Italy. The historic museum, founded in 1775, is known for its massive taxidermy collection which, itself, is also antique. Additionally the museum has an anatomic section with incredibly life-like, wax sculptures of the human body and its functions.
This proposal for the museum was primarily a much-needed, updated map of the museum. There’s not much publicity for the museum so the back of the map was intended to be a keep-sake, a poster that would be saved or shared after the visit was over. The poster itself is inspired by the “wunderkammer” or cabinet of curiosities that had movable parts that could be utilised for postcards and other sellable items. The same was the intention for the icon system that is used on the map-side of the brochure.
